
Stephen Pusey
Born in London, UK, in 1952. Graduated from St Martins School of Art, 1975. Stephen Pusey has lived and worked in New York City since 1986, following his exhibition at the prestigious P.S.1. Contemporary Art Center. Prior to that he was known for monumental figurative murals around London, commissioned by local government from 1977 - 1982. An image of the last and only surviving mural (1982) – one of the largest in the UK – was included in the Tate Britain exhibition, The 80s: Photographing Britain (November 2024 – May 2025). In 2019, the artist was commissioned by Seoul City Metropolitan Government to paint a five sectioned Abstract mural in the pavilion of the Oil Tank Culture Park, Mapo District (Mapo-Gu), Seoul. During the years that followed his move to New York, Pusey's work veered from figuration to Abstraction – returning to earlier influences. In 1994 he founded the online art and discussion hub, Plexus.org curating with Yu Yeon Kim, Omnizone, Perspectives in Mapping Digital Culture in 1997 which was featured on the Guggenheim Museum's website, via curator Jon Ippolito. Concurrent with his digital and network explorations, Pusey continued exhibiting his paintings in New York City, London and Seoul.
